BACKGROUNDAIMS:Dataonthedeficitsinleanbodymass(LBM)andtotalbodyskeletalmusclemass(SM)inanorexianervosa(AN)isscarceandinconsistent.Furthermore,theusefulnessofthereportedbodymassindex(BMI)severitycut-offforANhasnotbeentestedwithrespecttotheseimportantparameters.Thestudyhadtwoaims,namelytostudyLBMpatternsandSMinadultfemaleswithANbeforeandafterweightrestoration,andtoexaminetheclinicalusefulnessofthe16.5kg/m2BMIcut-offforassessingtheproteinstatusintermsofLBMandSMinANpatients.
